Sami Lukis (born 8 April 1970) is an Australian television and radio personality.

Lukis has appeared on the Nine Network as weather presenter on Today, and for Network Ten on the children's educational program Totally Wild. She also worked in radio as a breakfast news reader and presenter for Nova 96.9 on the Merrick and Rosso show.

Early life

Before starting her media career, Lukis graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Business Communication, majoring in Film and Television with a minor in Journalism. Sami was awarded the Federation of Radio Broadcasters Prize for the most outstanding student in broadcast journalism.[1]

Career

Between 1995 and 1997, Sami was a regular face on Good Morning Australia, Inside Sport, Monday to Friday, Bright Ideas, Ernie & Denise, At Home with John Mangos and Infobreak, presenting advertorials. She also hosted the infomercial series, Celebrity Home Shopping. In 1993 Sami was a reporter on the Network Ten Adventure Program, Wild Weekend.

In 1999, Sami hosted the Network Ten New Year's Eve Special, Video Hits: Funk ! The Millennium, co-hosted the Network Special, WAKAKIRRI, and was a regular guest on CHEEZ TV. In 1999 Sami was also the Network Ten Face of Motorsport and a roving reporter for LGTV, the live big-screen production at Stadium Australia for the Socceroos vs Brazil game. In 1998, Sami also co-hosted the national prime-time series Totally Wild Rescue, presented a series of Summer Safety national community service announcements and was a regular presenter on Bright Ideas and Ground Zero.

In 2001, Sami was the roving reporter on the hugely successful Big Brother reality series, and co-host of the Network Ten travel adventure program The Blue Planet. In 2000, Sami hosted the reality series, Shipwrecked, co-hosted the Network’s 18 foot skiff racing series, Grand Prix 2000, hosted Network documentaries Australia's Wild & Weird Animals and The Royal Easter Show. In the same year, Sami was a roving reporter at Redfest, the official Olympics Opening Ceremony kick-off party.

Sami joined Nine in March 2002, after four years at Network Ten, where she was a reporter and segment producer on the long running children’s program Totally Wild. Sami also regularly presented the weather, live, on the Ten News at Five and was a regular guest on Good Morning Australia.

Sami has worked at Foxtel, as a newsreader at Fox Sports and co-host of The Simpsons Live with Ian Thorpe.

At the Nine Network, Sami was the Weather Presenter on Today for 3 years until she was replaced by Steven Jacobs. Sami also co-hosted Torvill & Dean’s Dancing on Ice, hosted the reality series Loves Me, Loves Me Not and co-hosted the Logies Red Carpet Arrivals Specials & New Year's Eve Telecasts in both 2003 and 2004.

She has previously been featured in the ninemsn print publication Ralph and rival men's mag FHM, in revealing but fully clothed pictorials.

On 23 November 2007 Lukis left Merrick & Rosso on Nova 96.9 to move back to Brisbane. Kate Ritchie replaced her. In 2008, Lukis became part of Triple M Brisbane's The Cage breakfast show. Throughout 2008 Sami has been a regular presenter on the Brisbane current affairs show Extra to help promote her new role at Triple M. While in Brisbane, Sami also presented the weather daily on Nine News in Brisbane, and was a columnist for B Magazine in Brisbane, writing a column called "Single in the City".

In November 2008, Sami left The Cage breakfast show in Brisbane to join Ugly Phil O'Neil to co-host breakfast on Triple M Sydney replacing The Shebang. In July 2009, O'Neil and Lukis were axed from the breakfast shift due to poor ratings.

As of August 2009, Lukis is the newsreader for the Grill Team breakfast radio program airing on Triple M Sydney, though from December 2010 Lukis parted ways from Triple M and was replaced by Rachel Corbett as being the breakfast newsreader from January 2011.[2]

Sami appears regularly on 20-1 on the Nine Network, and The Morning Show, on the Seven Network. Lukis also occasionally appears in the Greater Union Cinebuzz Show, which is shown in Greater Union foyers and online. She has interviewed many celebrities on the red carpet including Steve Carell, Nicole Kidman, Jerry Seinfeld, Sam Worthington and Sarah Jessica Parker. Sami is also a host for Cinelive, most recently presenting live from the Andre Rieu concert in Sydney.

Sami also in November 2011 appeared on Ant and Becks' show on MixFM, filling in for Becks. [3]
